1594-Born to parents, King Charles IX, and Christina of Holstein.

1611-King Charles IX dies; Swedish Parliament waives age requirement; Gustavus gains the Throne at age 17.

1613-Inherits a war with Denmark, war ends with the Treaty of Knäred

1613-1617: Gustavus fought a battle with Russia, gaining land for Sweden, and cutting off access (for Russia) to the Baltic Sea.

1621-1629: Gustavus fought & defeated Poland, adding territory to Sweden's Southern and Eastern Baltic Coasts.

1629: Gustavus freed himself from a War against Poland with the signing of the Treaty of Altmark.

1630: Known as the "Lion of the North", Gustavus entered the Thirty Years War against the Holy Roman Empire's efforts to expand. His whole intention being to secure Sweden's borders.

1630-June/July: Landed in Pomerania with 4,000 men.

1631: Defeated Johanne von Tilly at the Battle of Brietenfeld, near Leipzig, September 17th.

1632-March: Gustavus starts invasion of Bavaria; Defeats Tilly in the Battle of Lech.

1632-May: Augsburg and Munich fall to Gustavus.

1632-September: Gustavus launches unsuccessful attack on the 'Alte Feste'.

1632-November: Sweden defeats Wallenstein at the Battle of Lutzen; King Gustavus Adolphus is slain in the battle.
